How to get to Delft

Delft is very easy to reach from anywhere in the world. It is at a short train ride from Schiphol Amsterdam Airport, which is extremely well-connected with direct flights to/from all major and many smaller European cities, a score of cities in the USA, and many Asian destinations. In addition, it has very good railway connections to other European countries.

From Schiphol Amsterdam Airport
If you arrive at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, you can either take a train or a taxi to Delft.


Trains from Schiphol to Delft
A train ride from the airport to Delft takes approximately 40 minutes. There is a train every 15 minutes. Schiphol railway station is located in the main hall of the airport. After clearing customs, you have to go through two rows of shops to get to the main hall. Tickets can be bought in the yellow ticket machines (which only at Schiphol Airport take credit cards) located in the main hall or online via NS app.


You should take a train to the station of Delft (not to Delft-Zuid). There are direct trains from Schiphol Airport to Delft. However, connections via Leiden or Rotterdam are also possible, depending on the date and time you are travelling.  Please make sure to take a train that stops in Delft (not all trains do). For the train timetable, please see the website of Dutch Rail (NS) and it is recommended to download the NS App to keep track of real-time travel updates and your travel route.

Taxis from Schiphol to Delft
A taxi from Schiphol to Delft will cost anywhere between € 79 and € 95 (prices vary, and these are approximate prices). You can book a taxi with the Schiphol Travel Taxi service. On this website, enter 2628 CM as zipcode and 5 as house number (conference venue) or the zipcode and house number of your hotel.


From Rotterdam The Hague Airport
There are direct flights from several European cities to Rotterdam The Hague Airport, which is very close to Delft. A taxi from Rotterdam Airport to Delft will cost around € 25. The telephone number to call a taxi is +31 (0)10-26 20 406. If you prefer to travel to Delft by public transportion, you will first need to take bus nr. 33 to Rotterdam Central Station, which takes about 20 minutes. From there, you can take a direct train to Delft; these run every 15 minutes. See also the website of the RET (local Rotterdam transportation, in Dutch) and Dutch Rail (NS).

From Delft Railway Station to your Hotel
Please note that because of the construction going on around the railway station, both the bus and the taxi stands are behind (on the western side of) the railway station.
  • If you stay at a hotel in the old city, the most convenient way is just to walk to your hotel (see the map with walking routes).
  • If you stay at the Hampshire Hotel Delft Centre, take bus 60 or 62  to the stop 'Bieslandhof' or take a taxi. From the bus stop, walk back about 100 meters to get to the hotel.
  • If you stay at the WestCord Hotel Delft, take bus 80 or 82 to 'IKEA' or take a taxi.

From your Hotel to TU Delft
If you stay at a hotel in the old city, the most convenient way is just to walk to the University Campus and the conference venue.
If you stay at the Hampshire Hotel Delft Centre, you can either walk (20 minutes, see the map with walking routes), take bus 60 or 62 from 'Bieslandhof' to 'Michiel de Ruyterweg' (2nd stop), or take a taxi.
If you stay at the WestCord Hotel Delft, you can either walk (20 minutes, see the map with walking routes), take bus 82 from 'IKEA' to 'Michiel de Ruyterweg' (3rd stop), or take a taxi.

From Delft Railway Station to TU Delft
You can either walk (20 minutes, see the map with walking routes) or take bus 69 or 121 to 'Aula-TU' (the bus stop is at the back (western side) of the railway station), or take a taxi.

Public transportation in Delft
All relevant bus schedules can be found here.  Buses are run by the company Veolia. Payment is done through a credit card-size so-called  "OV-chip card".

Parking in Delft
Visitors are advised to use the official car parks, such as the one in Zuidpoort (see parkingdelft), which is at only a few minutes walk from the old city center. To find the car parks, just follow the signs to P-route Centrum. The rates are € 2.00 per hour and € 12.00 per day. The parking fee has to be paid
when you collect your car. The parking spaces in the streets of Delft are clearly marked. Find a parking metre and get a ticket after parking your car. The cheapest option is to park your car in the University area. You might have to search for a space, but since the University is outside the city center, parking there is free.
