The west coast of Sri Lanka faced erosion for the last few decades as a result of intensive sand mining and climate change. The limits of erosion were quantified and assessed through field measurements for a stretch of 18km. The history of shoreline change and the results of field measurements of the shoreline position carried out over two years are presented in the abstract. Further, the behaviour of the shoreline changes with the introduction of a new protective structure was also studied. In addition, a few protective measures were also proposed and their pros and cons were discussed under the study and all details will be presented in the paper.
